Weddell Duo Shower Filter Review (Still Using It After a Year)

My bathroom shower with Weddell Duo shower filter installed

You may already be avoiding toxic ingredients in your skincare and filtering your drinking water. But if you’re like me, you might not have considered your shower water.

Here’s the problem: unfiltered shower water can contain chlorine, PFAS, microplastics, other chemicals that get absorbed through your skin.

These are real health concerns. They can also cause dryness, irritation, and even make eczema worse.

That’s one of the reasons I started looking at shower filters. The Weddell Duo filters out chlorine, heavy metals, PFAS, and particulates, making your water safer and healthier.

But does it live up to the hype? I’ve been using mine for over a year now and have replaced the filters more than once.

Before we jump into my experience with the Weddell Duo Shower Filter, if you’re considering this product, there’s a little perk for you. Use my coupon code TINA10 for a 10% discount at checkout.

Benefits of Using a Shower Filter

Filtering your shower water offers a range of benefits, including:

  • Healthier Skin: Reduces dryness and irritation caused by chlorine.
  • Shinier Hair: Prevents damage and brittleness often linked to harsh chemicals.
  • Improved Air Quality:  Fewer volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in steam means fewer harmful substances inhaled during your shower.

With these advantages, it’s clear that investing in a water filter for your shower can lead to healthier routines.

The Weddell Duo Shower Filter: “Step zero of your self-care routine!”

Here’s what sets the Weddell Duo apart from other shower filters I’ve considered.

Dual Filtration System: The Key to Clean Water

The Weddell Duo uses a combination of activated carbon filter and multi-stage filtration to remove chlorine, PFAS, particulates, and odors for healthier skin, hair, and scalp.

The clear cartridges indicate when it’s time for a replacement, ensuring consistent performance.

Certified and Tested Contaminant Reduction

The Duo is the only shower filter NSF-certified to reduce Free Available Chlorine, with verified results for PFAS, particulates, and other contaminants.

Most other filters can’t match this level of assurance.

Here are just a few details:

The Weddell filter’s certifications confirm the contaminant reduction of chemicals like chlorine, PFAS, and particulates.  I’m all about having real third-party test results to prove whether a product’s reduction claims are true!

Dermatologist Approved

The Weddell Duo is dermatologist approved, making it a trusted choice for sensitive skin and scalp concerns. It’s clinically tested to improve skin hydration and scalp health.

I was recently diagnosed with eczema, so I was glad to learn about these benefits!

Minimal Impact on Water Pressure

The Weddell Duo is designed to maintain strong water pressure.  It has a maximum flow rate of 2.8 GPM, which is higher than the pressure of most standard showerheads.

However, if pressure decreases over time, it’s a sign the filter needs replacing to maintain optimal performance.

I didn’t notice any reduction in water pressure at all.

Long Lifespan and Clear Cartridge

The 8,000 gallon filter life outlasts many other filters on the market. The clear cartridge design lets you see when the sediment filter needs replacing.

I love seeing the clear side get darker, because I know it’s removing the contaminants from my water!  (Am I strange? 😂)

Compatibility with Different Showerheads

Another impressive aspect is its compatibility with a variety of shower heads. Whether you have a handheld, fixed, or rain showerhead, the Weddell Duo should fit seamlessly.

Installation: Getting It Set Up in Minutes

This was one of the fastest and easiest installs I’ve seen.

Step-by-Step Guide to Installing the Weddell Duo

Due to a dislocated shoulder, I was unable to reach the shower head, so I observed my husband install the filter.

The process was so simple and straightforward that I’m confident I could have done it myself if I had the use of both arms.

It took less than 5 minutes and was hassle-free, requiring only a wrench for our stuck shower head. Everything (except the wrench) was provided in the box.

Here are basic instructions, however the directions that come with the water filter are more in-depth.

  1. Remove your existing shower head by turning it counter-clockwise.
  2. Wipe off the threads of your shower arm with a towel.
  3. Remove the plastic cap off the bottom of the Weddell Duo filter.
  4. Connect the Duo showerhead filter to the shower arm.
  5. Wrap 2 full turns of the included plumber’s tape around the bottom of the Duo filter.
  6. Reconnect your showerhead to the bottom of the Duo filter.
  7. Turn on the water and let it run for 3 minutes to flush out dust or buildup.

Maintaining your filter is very easy. It’s recommended to replace the filter every 5-6 months, or when there is a decrease in water pressure for optimal performance.

The frequency of replacement will depend on the quality of your water supply and how often you use your shower.

What I love is you don’t have to remove the whole filter set up from your shower head. Changing the filter is as simple as unscrewing the two caps, replacing the two filters, and screwing the caps back on.

It gives me peace of mind to know it’s such an easy process.

Update: When it came time to replace the filter, I was able to do it myself even with my shoulder issues!
